HERO is the Health & Education Relief Organization, a Georgia-based 501c(3)
nonprofit and non-governmental organization dedicated to helping the children
of Haiti. HERO is overseen by an all-volunteer Board of Trustees and depends
entirely on in-kind and monetary contributions. Donations are tax-deductible.
HERO draws its inspiration from “Dr. Gerry,” the late Gerónimo Lluberas, M.D.
Until cancer cut short his life in 2003, Dr. Gerry led numerous medical
missions to the remote and impoverished town of Belle Anse in Haiti, eventually
treating over 10,000 patients.
Dr. Gerry dreamed that Belle Anse would one day have its own permanent health
facility. HERO is committed to fulfilling and expanding on Dr. Gerry’s dream.
HERO’s mission is to work throughout Haiti to build clinics, schools and water
and waste management systems, and to enhance the efforts of other charitable
organizations through cost-effective project management.
HEALTH
HERO builds medical and dental clinics, labs, pharmacies and emergency-care
facilities, targeting areas where healthcare needs are especially acute.
EDUCATION
HERO handles school construction, improvement and expansion projects,
delivering quality results on time and on budget.
RELIEF
HERO offers relief from the threat of treatable illnesses by providing clean
water and proper waste management through the construction of wells, cisterns,
water filtration and sewage treatment systems.
ORGANIZATION
HERO provides a full range of project organization, planning, design,
engineering, cost-control, troubleshooting, facilitation, and management
services to other charities and churches that share HERO’s goals in Haiti.
Why Hero?
Hundreds of churches, non-governmental organizations, foundations and other

HERO’s Board of Trustees includes outstanding professionals in relevant fields
such as project management, engineering, architecture, law, health, education,
communications, accounting, and nonprofit administration.
